The loons at Six Mile Lake now have a single chick that hatched sometime in late June and was first reported to me Saturday morning. This photo is from Sunday, near the boat launch. While the loons seemed fairly unfazed by the activity on the lake last weekend, it still was nice to see boaters give the pair a healthy amount of space as one toted the chick around on its back while the other dove nearby. A scan of the lake Thursday showed the loons far out in the middle, with the chick still riding. Let’s hope the promising start continues. (Betsy Bloom/Daily News photo)
