Kingsford wins opener in state Majors tourney

Kingsford won its opening game Friday in the Michigan Little League Majors (ages 10-12) baseball tournament in Tecumseh, defeating Mattawan 3-2. The tournament includes four four-team pools with the top two teams from each pool advancing to an eight-team single-elimination tournament beginning Monday. Kingsford is scheduled to play West Branch at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time today and South Portage at 1 p.m. Sunday to wrap up pool play. West Branch defeated South Portage 3-1 on Friday.
