Will Social Security increase be coupled with rise in Medicare?

Thursday’s article on the COLA increase in 2019 for Social Security benefits was very thorough, except for one factor — the cost for Medicare benefits. Maybe the government has not released that information yet and it should have been stated in the article.

It sounds good to get an increase in our Social Security benefits. We all know how prices have increased and our money does not buy what it used to buy. However, last year we got an increase in both benefits AND Medicare benefit cost. The end result was my net check for 2018 did not increase over the amount I received in 2017.

So, why give an increase at all, if the government gives it with one hand and takes it away with the other hand?

Not behaving like Americans

Alexis de Tocqueville, French historian, said after visiting the churches in America he then understand the secret of her genius and power: “America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

Did we see any goodness in the hearings that smeared the good reputation of Brett Kavanaugh? Did we see goodness in the attacks on our senators and on those who supported Kavanaugh?

We have lost our way, I fear. This behavior was not America and we better turn this around.
