Don’t try to erase history

Like so many others, when I was a kid, I did not agree with much of what my father said. I was being taught in school to read books like “Civil Disobedience” and “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau. I thought racism was a terrible thing and I hoped that someday I would be able to help stop it from hurting people. I do not think my father felt the same way. I don’t think he ever harmed anyone from another race, except possibly in World War II. However, as I said, we mostly did not agree.

My father died. He will never change from what he was. Does this mean I should take down his pictures from my wall, wrap them in an American flag and burn them? Would that change the past? Would an act of vengeance make me a better person?

It’s not just a shame what the left-wing extremists are doing in our cities, it’s a crime and an insult to all the people who died to preserve our constitutional rights and especially to all who died during the Civil War standing for the fact that “all men are created equal, with certain inalienable rights.” These great Americans gave their lives to end slavery and keep America united and compassionate.

I hope another Civil War does not erupt in our country because people want to erase history. Is common sense extinct? You cannot erase the past; your current behavior is history in progress.

Too many at Lake Antoine

I drove by Lake Antoine Campgrounds on July 5. I was shocked! I have never seen so many campers and people at that park. Seemed that all of the safety issues were completely ignored. I can’t believe that the campground was allowed to host so many campers. Who is responsible for that decision? It’s just inevitable we will see many additional COVID-19 cases related the Fourth of July weekend. I thought our county officials did what was best for the communities? So much for that.
