Beware of roadwork, new speed zone near Niagara

Speak Out

The main drag of Niagara, Wis., is being torn up for the second time in recent years. That leaves Niagara folks only three escape routes should a disaster present itself. Those routes are U.S. 141 to the north, U.S. 141 to the south and County N to the west, depending on where you live or happen to be.

Since southbound folks will be ticketed for using U.S. 141 all the way through town, those people find themselves forced to take County N to the west and then continue south on County O and County OO to get to Pembine and beyond. A few weeks ago, County O received some haphazard, Band-aid-type paving at roadway edges.

Thursday night, Marinette radio 103.7 FM reported County O and County OO will be treated to a “chip and seal” on or about Aug. 3. Along with that comes a “temporary” 35 mph speed limit to be strictly enforced by county and state officers. You and I know there is no such thing as a “temporary” speed limit, as there is no such thing as a “temporary” tax. This is nothing more than a money-grab, speed-trap situation.

Fact: Blacktop roads crack from the bottom up, so “chip-and-seal” is a waste of money and a heyday for windshield installers. Make sure your comprehensive coverage is paid up.

More cases due to more testing

I just read that we are heading for high risk. One area they did not mention is that the hospitals opened full steam over a month ago, doing all kinds of testing, like bloodwork, etc. Lots of seniors getting their yearly testing done, etc. It would be great if the health department would state if a person is sick or just did not know they even had it so as not to scare folks. With local testing, I am sure it will go up more.
