IM needs to fix A, B streets
Speak Out
I recently sold my house in Kingsford and moved to a rental property in Iron Mountain. My current home is on a side street between West A and West B streets, close to City Park.
It didn’t take long before I was shocked to see the terrible condition A and B streets are in. Both are one-way streets. West A runs from downtown all the way to City Park. West B runs in the opposite direction.
Being one-way streets in the heart of the west side, both are heavily traveled roads. For a time, I traveled toward City Park on West A and drove downtown on West B. Then I learned enough to take Ludington Street both ways if I did not want to ruin the tires or springs on my car.
I can’t believe the City of Iron Mountain has let those two streets deteriorate to the condition they are in. Really, they are both disasters.
Recently, I bought a home in Kingsford and will move there this month. I am very happy about this move for several reasons, but one is the excellent condition most Kingsford streets are in. My former paved alley in Ford Addition is far superior to A and B streets in Iron Mountain.
How is it decided which roads need immediate repaving? Certainly, thoroughfares like A and B streets should be high on the list of priorities.
If I was to remain an Iron Mountain resident, I would be at the next City Council meeting — COVID allowing — to vociferously express my assessment of these roads. Thankfully, I do not need to do that, as my impending move to Kingsford will see me smooth sailing again on excellent city streets. Thank you, Kingsford.
