NWS, DNR warn about flooding, fire danger

IRON MOUNTAIN — Water levels will be rising on many rivers and streams due to increasing snow melt, and the potential for wildfires is elevated because of gusty winds and a lack of recent rainfall, the National Weather Service said.

A flood advisory was issued for the Menominee River near Vulcan. Although below flood stage, flows are above normal and could be a hazard to boaters and other recreational interests along the river.

Open debris burning was prohibited today in Iron, Dickinson and Menominee counties, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said.

The fire danger was very high today in Florence and Marinette counties, according to the Wisconsin DNR. Crews were called Sunday to extinguish a brush fire in Homestead, Wis.
