State reports another COVID-19 death in Marquette County

Marquette County has both a new COVID-19 case and a new death attributed to the virus, according to state health officials.

Houghton County also added a new case under the daily tally posted by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The MDHHS data site Saturday listed Baraga County with one virus case; Chippewa County two cases; Luce County three cases; Schoolcraft County four cases; Gogebic County five cases and a death; Dickinson County five cases and two deaths; Houghton County six cases; Mackinac and Menominee counties eight cases each; Delta County 17 cases and two deaths; and Marquette County 55 cases and 11 deaths.

The MDHHS also has separately listed prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

The U.P. as of Saturday afternoon had 116 positive cases, including 16 deaths, according to state figures.

Iron, Keweenaw, Alger and Ontonagon counties have yet to report a COVID-19 case in the Upper Peninsula and are the only counties in Michigan not to have at least one positive coronavirus test.

The MDHHS statewide reported 263 confirmed new COVID-19 cases Saturday for a total of 56,884 to date. The state had 57 new deaths — which included 37 deaths that happened earlier but were confirmed through vital records and testing — for 5,463 to date.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, only Vilas County added a new case. The state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday listed Marinette County with 33 cases, including two deaths; Forest County with 28 cases and one death; Vilas County with seven cases; Florence County with two cases; and Iron County with two cases and a death.

Statewide, Wisconsin had recorded 18,230 cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday afternoon, with 588 deaths.
