Dickinson County posted its most lethal COVID-19 day so far Wednesday with six new deaths, according to local health officials.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s report on Facebook did not provide any further information on the latest deaths, as has been its past practice in respect of the families involved.

The DIDHD as of Wednesday afternoon added 17 positives in Dickinson County plus six new probable cases and 18 recovered cases. For Iron County, the DIDHD had six new cases, one probable case and six recovered cases.

The DIDHD on Wednesday put Dickinson County at 1,545 confirmed positives and 90 probable cases, with 626 recovered, 36 deaths and 973 cases still active. Iron County has had 664 confirmed cases and 38 probables, with 434 recovered, 30 deaths and 238 cases still active, according to the DIDHD.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed 134 more confirmed positives: 37 in Dickinson County; 27 in Houghton County; 24 in Baraga County; 20 in Marquette County; six in Menominee County; five in Iron County; four in Delta, Gogebic and Chippewa counties; two in Schoolcraft County; and one in Luce County. The state also listed four new deaths in Dickinson and Baraga County, plus one new in Marquette, Houghton and Chippewa counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 55 confirmed cases and 11 probable, and one death; Luce County, 114 confirmed cases and 47 probable; Alger County, 146 confirmed, 68 probable and one death and one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 157 confirmed cases and 11 probable, one death and one probable; Mackinac County, 201 confirmed cases and 62 probable; Ontonagon County, 245 confirmed, 25 probable and 12 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 315 confirmed cases and 426 probable, and five deaths; Baraga County, 378 confirmed cases, 57 probable and 10 deaths; Gogebic County, 546 confirmed cases and 199 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and 11 probable deaths; Iron County, 661 confirmed cases and 37 probable, 29 confirmed deaths and four probable; Menominee County, 1,113 confirmed cases, 126 probable and 13 deaths; Houghton County, 1,218 confirmed cases, 260 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and two probable; Dickinson County, 1,548 confirmed cases and 86 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and four probable; Delta County, 2,103 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 48 confirmed deaths and 10 probable; and Marquette County, 2,406 confirmed cases, 297 probable and 28 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 11,206 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 202 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday reported 4,273 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 324,779 to date. The state added 73 new deaths Wednesday to reach 8,761.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday added 29 new cases in Marinette County, 22 in Vilas County, five in Florence County, four in Forest County and one in Iron County. The state also had a new death in Forest, Iron and Vilas counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 2,823 confirmed cases, 237 probable cases and 26 deaths; Vilas County, 1,170 confirmed, 30 probable and 12 deaths; Forest County, 706 confirmed, 42 probable and 17 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 337 confirmed, 61 probable and nine deaths, three probable; and Florence County, 301 confirmed, 17 probable and 11 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin had 5,469 new positives Wednesday for a total of 369,442 confirmed cases. The state added 63 COVID-19-related deaths Wednesday for a total of 3,178.
