Dickinson shows 2 new virus cases

State data sites Tuesday showed two new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County, while Marinette County across the border in Wisconsin had a new virus-related death.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Tuesday listed two new positives in Dickinson County; and one each in Schoolcraft, Chippewa, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties. The only new U.P. death Tuesday came in Gogebic County.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 20,031 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 436 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 254 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 353 confirmed cases and 83 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 419 confirmed, 63 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 455 confirmed cases and 255 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 690 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,042 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,080 confirmed cases and 1,395 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,793 confirmed cases, 327 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,406 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,528 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 34 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,342 confirmed cases and 714 probable, 75 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,251 confirmed cases, 821 probable and 61 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 293 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 891,057. The state Tuesday had 56 new deaths attributed to the virus — including 37 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing — to reach 19,432.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had only one new confirmed positive, in Vilas County, while Forest County’s count was reduced by one. Marinette County had the only new death among the region’s counties.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,232 confirmed cases, 477 probable cases and 67 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,288 confirmed, 146 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 963 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 582 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 452 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin on Tuesday added 168 new positives for a total of 611,168 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 17 new deaths Tuesday to reach 7,178.
