KINGSFORD — Everyday changes happen and one must adapt to them. The change in the weather that was an easy one. Blue skies, dry roads, warmer temperatures and running water from the thaw brought people out to spend as much time as possible in the sunshine. Even the house plants perked up.

Changes also happen to scheduled meetings. John Aune, program chairman, announced his planned speaker was unable to make the Monday meeting. He being resourceful donned his February chairman’s hat and challenged the members to fill the program spot. Since seniors do not back down from a challenge that is what they did.

Sue LeDuc, filling in for Alyce Derwinski, sat down at the piano, rolled up her sleeves, got those ivories moving as Don Pedo called out the song numbers, the entire group began singing, filling the room with music. Jim Verrette and Bob Bowman did a duet on their favorite song from University of Michigan, their Alma Mater. Verrette then gave a solo of a slightly different version of “Side-by-Side” given to the Golden K by Robert Rigoni a few years back.

At right, member Jim Verrette sings a solo.

Jeannine Polkinghorn then read a poem about the “Creation of the Yoopers.” LeDuc then interjected a few more songs in the days repertoire completing the impromptu program with a flourish.

No program — no problem. These seniors can make things happen without missing a beat. LeRoy Lindstrom gladly collected his winnings from the 50-50 drawing, while everyone else wondered how does he do it. Three times in a row. Happy Anniversary to Gary and Sue Proudfit, Feb. 24. Happy Dollars included greetings from Florida Snowbirds Dorleen and Vance Uhazie via Diane Aune. With Jim Verrette leading the group in “Toot-Toot-Tootsie Goodbye,” the day ended on a happy note.

The Golden Throats will sing at Wednesday at Victorian Pines. The Golden K meeting Monday will have Tom Gursky a well-known singer from the local area. Program begins at 10:30 a.m.
