KINGSFORD — On a beautiful spring morning, Orice Walters opened the Golden K meeting Monday.

Walters led members in opening prayer, then Al Calcari, with Alyce Derwinski at the piano, led members in traditional songs.

Joan Jouppi reported on the fishing poles project. Paul Jacobs and Duane Barnard sponsored the idea of refurbishing fishing poles for children. About 100 poles were obtained, which Barnard made usable. Since there was not enough local interest in distribution, Jouppi found the Izaak Walton Group in Stevens Point, Wis., would take the poles and have a free day for distribution on May 27. The project was a success, but no more poles will be collected.

Members discussed plans for the future and decided the children’s picnic would be Sept. 13 at City Park in Iron Mountain; the member’s summer picnic would be in July or August; the annual peanut sale would be on Labor Day weekend; and meetings will continue on Mondays except for May 31 and June 14.

Kurt Olson gave the treasurer’s report. The generous donations received for John Jamar and Jim Verrette were noted and their families will be consulted on distribution.

The 50-50 and Pot of Gold will continue at each meeting. Calcari was the first lucky winner.

Lois Outcelt will be the chairperson for June and the board will meet and schedule chairperson for the year.

New members are always welcome. Golden K meets at 10 a.m. Mondays at the Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford.

Starting at $4.00/week.
