Daily Meditations: The quest for happiness

The quest for “happiness” is today’s hot-ticket item. There is something call the “Get Happier Project,” defined as “a new positive psychology of mental health.” Another initiative, called “The Pursuit of Happiness,” promises to “bring the science of happiness to life.”

In New York City next February, there is scheduled a “Woohoo Inc. Academy” to promote happiness at work. The one I find most amazing is the project titled “A Lazy Person’s Guide to Happiness.” I have never seen a lazy person happy, so it they pull that one off, I’d be surprised.

Then there are the apps. There’s a “Happiness Planner,” a “Happiness Wizard,” a “Happiness Tracker” and even a happiness gratitude journal.

To top this all off, there is a handwritten note that gives a prescription for happiness that sold at an auction a few weeks ago for $l.3 million. What made the note so valuable was that it was handwritten in November 1922 by Albert Einstein.

This is what he wrote: “A calm and humble life will bring more happiness than the pursuit of success and the constant restlessness that comes with it.” I think we would do better following this advice than any that those listed above can offer…

God bless.

Starting at $3.50/week.
