Farewell party planned for Carl and Becky Bishop on Saturday

Becky and Carl Bishop

FELCH TOWNSHIP — A farewell party for Carl and Becky Bishop will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Felch Township Community Center on M-69 in Felch.

The Bishops came to Felch Township in May 2011 after having a camping ministry near Medford, Wis. They wanted to serve the elderly and the poor, meeting people’s needs through hands-on ministry, including fixing automobiles, cutting wood, making minor repairs in homes and otherwise being available, according to their InFaith ministry listing. Becky leads a women’s Bible study group, and they both visit two nursing homes in Dickinson and Iron counties, “sharing the love of Christ,” Carl Bishop said.

They plan to move downstate July 28 to Adrian, Michigan, where they will complete their ministry work while helping tend to Carl’s aging parents. It also puts them closer to two of their children, Carl Bishop said.

“Our family is a priority,” he explained, adding, “We’ll take away the joy of knowing all the folks here and the relationships we’ve built … we’ll come back and visit, definitely.”

Saturday’s event will offer dinner and fellowship. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Bishops in their move and ministry.

“Their time is never their’s, it’s somebody else’s … any place that needed help, they were there,” said Deb Dixon, a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Metropolitan.

The event is sponsored by Mission Covenant Church, Felch Mountain Bible Chapel, Zion Lutheran, Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola, Randville Bible Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City.
