Concert planned Thursday at Grace Covenant Church

IRON RIVER — The Chicago-based jazz quartet Stephen Lynerd Group will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Thursday at Grace Covenant Church in Iron River.

The concert is the final installment of the 20th annual Summer Concert Series, which featured two other performances in June and July.

“We are so excited to be bringing this unique and talented group back to the U.P. for our final show of the season,” said Erika Lindwall, chairwoman of the Worship Committee at GCC. “The primary instrument of Stephen Lynerd is the vibraphone, which is a percussion instrument resembling a xylophone that produces beautiful, bright, resonant tones and he’s just mesmerizing to watch.”

The group plays jazz arrangements of a variety of Christian music, including contemporary songs, hymns and original tunes.

Refreshments and coffee will be served after the concert. A free-will offering will be taken during the performance to help cover the cost of travel and lodging for the group.
