Daily Meditations: Faith coming and going — John 4:43ff

Jesus returned to Cana, where he had made the water into wine. While he was there a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum came all the way to Cana to ask Jesus to come and heal his son.

He begged Jesus to come back to Capernaum before his son died. Jesus told him to go back without him that his son was going to live. The man believed what Jesus said to him and left!

Just think of the faith this man had to leave his dying son and go the twenty miles to find Jesus. Then to be told that his son would live and so at Jesus’ word, he starts back home. In thinking about this we see that he had faith “coming and going”.

We are told that while the man was on the way back, he met his slaves who told him that his son was healed. He was rewarded for his great faith in the Lord.

We might ask ourselves, do we have faith both coming and going? We have to have faith when we come to the lord with our problems. But how about our faith when we have leave our concerns in his hands, trusting that we too can go on our way?

Lord, please give us the faith coming and going!

God Bless…
