Daily Meditations – Good to be here moments Lk: 9:28ff

We are told in Luke’s gospel that Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain to pray. While there, they experience a special vision of a glorified Jesus meeting Moses and Elijah. It was such a great experience that Peter wanted to build three tents for them and said how good it was for them to be here.

This “good to be here” moment was to follow a “not so good to be here” moment, when the three witnessed his agony in the garden and his death that followed.

Twenty years later, in his second epistle, Peter mentions about this vision, this “good to be here” moment that encouraged them with the struggles they had in the early church.

We notice in that vision, that God’s voice said, “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” When we read the scriptures, we know that the apostles had a number of “good to be here” moments.

However, I think they would have had more if they had listened to him.

Same with ourselves. Think of the “good to be here” moments we had with our Lord, and how they were meant to help us with the “not so good to be here” moments. Also, we should realize that we would have many more “good to be here” moments if we listened to him.

This also applies to our relationships. Our “good to be here” moments can help us get through the more difficult moments with each other. We, too, would have many more “good to be here” moments if we listen to one another more.

God bless.
