MoJo at out to Lunch Thursday

MOJO, FEATURING BILL Morrison, left, and Scott Johnson will be featured Thursday at Out to Lunch.

IRON MOUNTAIN — The fourth concert of this year’s Out to Lunch program featured the sounds of Bill Morrison and Mark Young entertaining a crowd of nearly 500.

On the days when the sun warms the aged brick and wooden benches of the Out to Lunch concert park, the music always seems a little bit better, and those who attended Thursday hummed along to hits that spanned the decades and sipped on their lemonades to keep cool.

While Morrison and Young entertained the largest audience of the season thus far, those in attendance partook in the weekly raffle, and the grand prize of “half the pot” was $263, of which some was donated back to the Out to Lunch program by the gracious winner.

This week, MOJO will perform the fifth concert for both Out to Lunch and Music in the Park. MOJO is an acoustic duo featuring Bill Morrison and Scott Johnson, so those who thoroughly enjoyed Young at last week’s concert can once again hear his music but in a slightly different form, and with a slightly different edge. Morrison plays the guitar, mandolin, banjo and is featured on vocals.

Johnson contributes with guitar and vocals as well, and when the two perform together, crowds are always entertained. The duo plays a variety of music, from classic rock, country rock, to blues and bluegrass. Some of the artists they cover include Tom Petty, The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Beatles, John Fogerty/Creedance, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Doobie Brothers.

The duo has performed many times throughout the years, and for the past several years have been a staple to the OTL program. “We really enjoy bringing in new groups to Out to Lunch, but keeping those staple performances that everyone loves so much is really important to us as well,” OTL organizers said. “It’s a way to thank the amazing artists that come out every year, but also show our wonderful audiences that we want to keep the performers that they love coming back.”

Last week, the raffle prizes were donated by the concert’s sponsor, Erickson Jewelers, The Daily News, The Advertiser and the OTL program, with the half-pot grand prize. Erickson Jewelers donated four $25 gift certificates, two $50 gift certificates and bracelets from their store.

Winners also walked away with a T-shirt from the Daily News, one free ad donated by the Advertiser, and a $263 cash prize from “half the pot.” This week, audience members once again will have the opportunity to participate in the raffle and win prizes of their own, as well as the grand “half-pot” prize.

Crispigna’s, Fred I.M. and Organic Grounds will continue to serve food.

Thanks to the generosity of the weekly sponsors as well as season sponsor, Jim’s Music, concerts have been free to the public for 17 years and will continue to be. This week’s concert is sponsored by Mouw & Cellelo law firm.

The OTL program runs from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Thursday, and the MITP program is 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Daydreamers will perform this week at Music in the Park.
