Local churches to offer free oil changes

IRON MOUNTAIN — The next area Car Care Clinic is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14.

This outreach is intended to help those in need with basic car maintenance, especially single parents with limited money or resources.

The clinic expects to provide free oil changes and a general maintenance inspection on more than 50 vehicles.

The clinic is organized and supported by First United Methodist Church, Quinnesec United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Norway Grace United Methodist Church, Abundant Life, Maranatha Assembly of God, First Covenant of Iron Mountain, and other area churches.

NAPA Auto Parts of Kingsford has agreed to provide discounts on automotive supplies. After being confirmed, registered participants can pick up the proper oil filter for their vehicle at NAPA Auto Parts before the event at no additional cost. Windshield wiper blades and air filters also will be available for most types of vehicles at a discount. The staff at NAPA will help individuals choose the correct parts.

Participants are asked to bring canned good donations to help local food pantries.

A Facebook page has been set up to connect volunteers and “customers,” and provide a place to share stories online. Search for “Iron Mountain Area Christian Ministry Car Care Clinic” or go to https://www.facebook.com/IMCarCareClinic.

Appointments are required to have vehicles serviced, as a limited number of time slots are available.

To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 906-282-5860. Registration deadline is Wednesday.
