KINGSFORD — The Dickinson County Community Chorus has begun rehearsals for the annual Holy Tuesday Lenten Service.

Chorus rehearsals are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford. Gail Vornkahl, associate conductor of the chorus, will lead the chorus for the service. Jean Panek will accompany the chorus on piano. Instrumentalists from the community will also be featured

The new Community Handbell Choir, featured at the recent DCCC Christmas Concert, will provide music for the prelude to the service.

The handbell choir will be led by Barb Rice. An organizational meeting for experienced ringers and intermediate-to-advanced music readers who would like to learn to ring will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the First Presbyterian Church. For more information about the handbell choir, email barb.strong.rice@gmail.com.

The ecumenical Lenten Service, done in cooperation with the Iron Mountain Area Clergy Association, is set for April 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. The music all is sacred, and part of a reflective service of prayers, scripture readings and meditations on the cross on which Jesus was crucified.

Membership in the chorus is open to all interested singers high school age and older. No audition is required. Chorus members hail from Dickinson and Iron counties as well as northern Wisconsin. New members are welcome. The last rehearsal to join the chorus will be Tuesday, Feb. 4.

For more information, call Vornkahl at 906-396-2708, check online at communitychorus.org, or come to the next rehearsal.
