Bay West LIFE presentation on maple sugar set

IRON MOUNTAIN — It is the season once again for “sugaring off,” and in honor of this harbinger of spring, the Bay West LIFE group will present Tom Andes, who manages and taps 500 sugar maples every year, at the meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fornetti Hall at Bay College West in Iron Mountain.

Andes will take attendees step by step through the process, from slogging through the snow to set out the collection equipment to the actual boiling down, straining and bottling of the delicious maple syrup.

Bay West LIFE is a group that believes in lifelong learning. They annually offer a scholarship earmarked for a non-traditional college student at Bay College West.

Everyone is welcome to attend any meeting and all presentations are free.
