Holy hands

It has been said that God has no hands but our hands to do His work on earth.

1 Timothy 2; 8 speaks about lifting up holy hands in prayer. How do hands become holy and who can have holy hands? The first part of that verse says,

“. …that the men pray everywhere.” So we know that it is not speaking of just one person or one place, but that praying should be done in this manner. I believe that yielding of ourselves body mind and spirit, to God in humility and praise, makes our hands “holy.”

I’ve often heard that the French people “talk with their hands.” It seems they wave their hands enthusiastically when speaking. It appears to add emphasis and importance to their words.

God’s people as His hands can also add emphasis to the truths of God’s Word by living holy, godly lives. We will look at a variety of hand types this week. There are hands that speak, as in sign language; hands that invite, such as beckoning hands; hands that warn . . . policemen “stop” motion and working hands such as a mechanic to name a few..

Women are very conscious of how their hands look. We get manicures and use lotions and creams to make our work worn hands look attractive. My hands are afflicted with arthritis which means nail painting and manicuring or lotions don’t do much to improve their appearance. However, in speaking of holy hands there is no mention of the skin appearance or the nails! This beauty comes from the inside!

As hands of Christ we have been called by Him. 2 Timothy 1:9 says He has “called us with a holy calling.” If we are followers of Jesus Christ we want to do His will and follow in His footsteps and our actions will reflect His holiness.
