Casanova arraigned on larceny and check charges

IRON MOUNTAIN – An Iron Mountain woman is accused of not paying clients and writing bad checks for money owed from an estate sale she handled last fall.

Jodi Lee Casanova, 56, pleaded not guilty in Dickinson County Circuit Court on July 7 to charges of larceny by conversion-$1,000 or more but less than $20,000, two counts of checks-non-sufficient funds $500 or more and one count of check-non-sufficient funds-three within 10 days.

According to the criminal complaint, Casanova was contracted to conduct the estate sale in October, with 60% of the total revenue to be paid to the clients. However, Casanova never paid the victims their share of the sales despite repeated promises to do so, the complaint states.

Casanova also reportedly wrote four checks on her account without having the funds to cover even one. The four checks were written on the same day in the same amount to satisfy her debt on the estate sale. Two clients attempted to cash the checks and two did not to avoid the fee for non-sufficient funds, the complaint states.

Casanova remains free on a $5,000 bond, with a pretrial conference set for Sept. 2.

Starting at $3.50/week.
