Jordyn Springer receives scholarships

JORDYN SPRINGER

FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence High School senior Jordyn Springer has been awarded two college scholarships from local donors for the 2020-21 fall semester.

She was chosen as one of two area recipients of the Erna Rousseau scholarship in memory of lifelong piano teacher and accompanist from Wabeno, Wis. The $1,000 award goes to area students involved in the arts throughout high school and planning to pursue a degree in education, art, dance or theater.

Springer is an accomplished artist in painting, drawing, design and jewelry making, and has received a merit award at the Kingsford Art Show, along with a special judges award and art instructors award at the Northern Lakes Conference Art Show. Her talents extend to music as well, where she has earned top awards in saxophone solo and ensemble performances.

Springer’s second local scholarship is the $1,500 Tim Touchett Legacy awards, one of three students chosen. Touchett was a Florence High School graduate who died of complications from surgery in 2014. This scholarship honors his memory and love for adventure and life in the northwoods.

Springer’s determination and desire to inspire others not only is displayed through her art but also by participating in three sports and through volunteering. She is a member of the Florence chapter of the National Honor Society, Student Council and TORPEDOS, through which she had the opportunity to give back to her school and community.

Springer plans to pursue a degree in graphic communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She is the daughter of Mark and Loralee Springer of Florence.
