It’s a celebration

IRON MOUNTAIN — Calling all veterans, their families and all Gold Star families of Dickinson County — the Dickinson County Office of Veterans Affairs, along with the Dickinson County Veteran Alliance organizations, will host a Gold Star Families of Dickinson County Memorial Dedication to honor and thank them.
Please make plans to attend at noon Saturday, Sept. 19, the Dickinson County Courthouse in Iron Mountain, where we will unveil the beautiful Gold Star Family Memorial. After several years of hard work by the veteran service organizations and community businesses, the memorial has become a reality and we are very excited to finally present it to the Gold Star Families and our community.
Following the dedication ceremony, we will provide a picnic in the back of the courthouse from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
At that time, we will honor all of the Vietnam veterans for their service by presenting the Vietnam Veteran lapel pin. This pin is to recognize, thank and honor United States military veterans who served during the Vietnam War, whether in Vietnam or in a supportive mission outside of Vietnam.
The United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration program has provided the pins for presentation. U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, a retired Marine lieutenant general, will have the honor of presenting the pins.
Additionally, we will recognize the widow or widowers of Vietnam veterans.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 19, at noon to join us and other veterans as we celebrate the lives of our fallen soldiers and the lives of our surviving Vietnam veterans.
