Yoga to begin at NWTC in Aurora

AURORA, Wis. –Yoga With or Without a Chair will be offered at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College site in Aurora through a partnership with the Aging and Disability Resource Center Florence County and Public Health of Florence County.

The classes will be 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursday starting Tuesday through Oct. 27 for slow flow; and from 10 to 11 a.m. for chair yoga.

Research through University of Wisconsin Health shows a major cause of obesity, premature death and other chronic conditions are related to an unhealthy diet and inadequate physical activity.

Yoga instructor Lynn Mueller, owner of icanyoga2, is a 500-hour certified yoga instructor and has had personal success in participating and leading yoga classes.

Those who have not tried yoga with Mueller are encouraged to give it a try. Returning students tell of the benefits of yoga.

The program is appropriate both for sedentary and active adults. The chair provides extra support for those who may need it, but it is not required.

The classes are open to all adults but target the middle-aged and older adult population. The cost is $5 per session, to be paid at each class.

Those interested in participating in the yoga classes can contact the Florence County Health Department at 715-528-3426.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in place at NWTC, students will be required to wear a mask and practice social distance by remaining 6 feet apart during yoga sessions. Students also will be required to sign in at each class for NWTC recording and reporting purposes. Class size is limited to no more than 30 participants.
