IRON MOUNTAIN — The 401 Club of Iron Mountain celebrates its first anniversary this weekend.
The club opened its doors on Feb. 14, 2020.
The former Jewish synagogue now supports members of four 12-step support programs. The club currently hosts group meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, OverEaters Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics.
Groups meet in the lower level, with the tables and chairs set up to practice safe social distancing to keep within the COVID-19 health guidelines.
All of the meetings are well attended, a club spokeswoman noted.
The main floor has a large area including a stage with theater-style seating for about 100 people.
Once the pandemic restrictions are lifted, the club looks forward to having featured speakers as well as host other various events of sober fun.
A year ago, the money was donated to purchase the property for the 401 Club, which is now registered as a non-profit organization. The board of directors established bylaws and house rules. They meet monthly to discuss anything pertaining to the club running smoothly and efficiently.
A special thank you goes out to all who helped this past year with donations and contributions for the startup of this organization, the spokeswoman said.
Some members say they can feel the powerful and positive spirit from the 110 years the Jewish community had their services at the church, she said.
The club is at 401 S. Kimberly Ave. on the corner of A Street in Iron Mountain.
