Glacial Gardeners scholarship available
FLORENCE, Wis. — Glacial Gardeners Master Gardener Association Volunteers will once again offer the Inga Fleming Memorial Scholarship to area residents.
Students pursuing a two- or four-year degree in one of these majors are eligible: agriculture or applied economics, agricultural education, agronomy, botany, entomology, environmental sciences, forest service, horticulture, landscape architecture, plant pathology, soil science or wildlife ecology.
Students may be first year or returning.
Applications for the $500 award are available at all high school counselor offices in Iron and Dickinson counties in Michigan as well as Florence and the Niagara corner of Marinette counties in Wisconsin, along with the financial aid offices at Bay College West and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Applications also are available online at www.florence.extension.wisc.edu. Deadline to apply is June 1.
To date, Glacial Gardeners have awarded $22,000 in scholarships. Glacial Gardeners are a Wisconsin Master Gardener Volunteer Association and work in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin Madison Extension to extend university-based research on horticulture to the general public.
They are involved in many projects in local communities and with schools. The plant sales that take place the last Saturday in May helps generate money to fund these scholarships and other projects.
