–September is Library Card Sign-up Month. This September, a library card might earn a special treat. Did you know all Dickinson County residents and property taxpayers are eligible for a library card at no charge? Non-residents also are welcome to get a library card for a fee. All ages are eligible for a card, but those younger than age 18 must have an adult cardholder fill out the paperwork and agree to be responsible for all checked out materials. Please bring a photo ID — and proof of residency, such as current utility bill, if seeking a free resident card and that ID doesn’t display a current address — to any library location to begin the registration process. Bay College West students are eligible for a free library card as long as they are enrolled, even if they do not reside in Dickinson County. Simply bring a student ID into any location to begin the registration process. Library cards allow the holder to check out materials, and access helpful eResources such as Libby for eBooks and audiobooks, Mango for language learning, A to Z Food America for recipes, and so much more.
–The library will return to normal hours of operation right after Labor Day, on Tuesday, Sept. 7. These hours are: Main library in Iron Mountain — Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m to 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 4:30 p.m.; Solomonson Branch in Norway — Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township — Monday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m.
–The “Haunted Lighthouses of Michigan” program teens and adults will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the main library in Iron Mountain. More than 30 lighthouses in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station and the antics at Waugoshance Shoal, these stories entertain all ages. Join author Dianna Stampfler as she shares some of these tales from her book, “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses.” A Q & A session and book signing will come at the end of the program. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
