Local Beta Sigma chapter donates school supplies
KINGSFORD — Two boxes of school supplies were delivered to Woodland Elementary School second grade teacher, Michelle Phelps on Tuesday.
The supplies were donated by members of Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Sigma Chapter, as one of the projects which shows support to area educators. Woodland Elementary, and specifically Phelps, was selected randomly to receive Beta Sigma’s support.
The Beta Sigma Chapter includes members from Michigan’s Dickinson, Delta and Menominee Counties and Wisconsin’s Oconto, Marinette, and Florence counties. Two more schools in adjacent areas will also be selected to receive supplies.
Phelps is a 1999 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and a 2003 graduate of Northern Michigan University, majoring in elementary education.
She assisted as a teacher’s aide at East Elementary and North Elementary in Iron Mountain and previously taught at Bishop Baraga before being hired at Woodland.
