‘Quarry Walk’ on Saturday

AMBERG, Wis. — The Amberg Historical Society will conduct an orientation session and “Quarry Walk” on Saturday.

The program will begin in the quarry display area in the main museum building in the Amberg Historical Complex at 10 a.m., where they will recount how and when granite quarrying started and William Amberg’s influence in establishing this as a major granite producer in the midwest. Included will be observation of an outdoor display on the museum grounds of the last known wooden derrick in Wisconsin.

The program at the museum will be followed by a walk to two and possibly three of the quarry sites near Amberg. Admission/ participation is free but donations to the Historical Society would be gratefully accepted.
