Wild Rivers Quilt Guild meets

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Wild Rivers Quilt Guild invites all area quilters and interested persons to join them for their upcoming meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave., at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 101 across from Pat’s Foods at the west end of Florence.

Lori Friberg will give a lecture/demonstration titled, “Tips and Techniques: Sewing Machine Maintenance.”

Do you know you are capable of performing basic maintenance? Sewing machines are the unsung heroes of quilt-work, stitching almost tirelessly, forming stitch after perfect stitch, thousands of times, as they create art, warmth and beauty from fabric and thread — until they don’t. The vast majority of the time, the issue is simply a matter of too little oil and too much lint.

Friberg is a self-taught restorer of old sewing machines, having mechanically rehabbed machines from 25 to 144 years old.

She will discuss common tools needed; show how, where and when to clean and oil; and help those who attend gain the confidence to perform their own maintenance.

Starting at $3.50/week.
