April events listed for the Dickinson library locations

Upcoming events Dickinson County Library events include:

— Vote on Bookmark Contest entries through Saturday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and on the library’s Facebook page. All ages submitted entries for the annual contest — now you will choose the winners. Come into the library to cast paper ballots and then “like” your favorite entries on the DCL’s Facebook post. The entries with the most “likes” will get one extra vote. Winners will be chosen for each age group, and the winning bookmarks will be available at the library and in the summer reading registration bags.

— Bunnies Storytime, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

These programs for children through age 5 include stories, songs, and a fun craft to take home. Registration is required; call a local library site before the program to sign up. Storytimes can be streamed live on Zoom as well; call 906-774-1218 to inquire or check the events calendar on the library’s website, www.dcl-lib.org, for more information.

— Lego Club, 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 4 p.m. Thursday at the Solomonson branch.

This month’s theme is Prison Break –kids in third through eighth grades can build a project based on this theme or use their imagination to build whatever they want. The library is excited to return to the Solomonson Branch starting this month. Registration is required and is limited to 10 participants. Call the local library site starting one week before the program to sign up. Lego Club creations will be displayed in the children’s room until the next club meeting.

— Hidden Hunters, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Phyllis Carlson, along with her 21-year-old great horned owl, Journey, will give a presentation about owls of Michigan and northern Wisconsin using PowerPoint, audio recordings and animal artifacts. For fifth-graders through adult ages.

— $mart Money Kids Read Storytime, 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Solomonson branch and 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Ages 4 to 7 are encouraged to attend independently to learn all about smart money practices during Financial Literacy Month. Participants will receive a free book, “Count on Pablo” by Barbara deRubertis, courtesy of Michigan Credit Unions; and a piggy bank, courtesy of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union. Space is limited; call 906-774-1218 starting one week before the program to sign up.

— Build a Peep House at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in third through eighth grades are invited to build a house for a marshmallow Peep out of snack foods such as graham crackers, M&Ms, sprinkles, jellybeans, and pretzels. Finished masterpieces will be displayed in the children’s room for public voting for one week, and the winner will receive a prize.

— The Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain will be closed Sunday, April 17, for the Easter holiday. The Solomonson and North Dickinson branches are always closed on Sundays.

— Registration opens Monday, April 18, for Teen Subscription Boxes available for pickup on Monday, May 2, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Boxes have a different theme each month and include a library book, treats, some other fun items and a book review form. Both the library book and the box must be returned, but participants may keep all other items. This is currently limited to the first five teen registrants each month. Stop in at any branch to fill out a registration form in person. A new registration form must be filled out each month to receive the next subscription box.

— Gamers’ Club, 4 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in third through eighth grades will be able to choose from a variety of Xbox games to play. Registration is required and is limited to 10 participants. To sign up, call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218, starting one week before the program.

— Earth Day Storytime, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

— Yooper Paws of Love Meet and Greet, 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

All ages are invited to meet Penny and her husky mix dog Azul from Yooper Paws of Love. Penny will explain how therapy dogs work and answer questions.

— Lego Club Jr., 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 4 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Solomonson branch.

By patron request, this Lego Club for younger children in kindergarten through second grade is perfect for budding engineers. This month’s theme is insects, but participants may build anything they want. Registration is required and is limited to 10. To sign up, call a local library site starting one week before the program.
