FLORENCE, Wis. –Kathy Kelm will give a presentation on barn quilts Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. during the Wild Rivers Quilt Guild meeting at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave., intersection of U.S. 2 and 101, at the west end of Florence.

Local quilter/artist Kelm has done many workshops in this area as well as in and around La Crosse, Wis. In her presentation, Kelm will be giving a brief history of barn quilts, how the craft has evolved, the resurgence in North America, and explain the barn quilt trails.

For instance, Shawano County boasts they have the most barn quilts in Wisconsin and even provide a map by which you can travel around to find them. She will discuss the process of construction in which the quilt patterns are painted, and answer questions.

Some of her own barn quilts can be viewed on U.S. 2 in Florence, Grand Rapids, Mich., Pembine, Wis. and in the La Crosse area.

Kelm and her husband John have been living in the Iron Mountain area for the past 32 years. Their three children all attended and graduated from the Iron Mountain public school system. After their graduation, she and John moved out to Cosgrove Lake.

Kelm started quilting nine years ago and about five years ago she ventured out and began making barn quilts. Some of her work can be seen on their pole barn in Florence County but she will do work on a commission basis as well. Contact her via email at kathy.kelm30@gmail.com.
