Mansfield Pioneer Church service set

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Mansfield Memories Committee will host its annual summer ecumenical service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21.

The old pump organ will again accompany many favorite hymns and gospel songs. Lay Minister Nancy Reese of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing will be the officiant.

The committee extends an open invitation to anyone who wishes to attend and hopes that they will stay for fellowship and lunch to follow the service.

No admission is ever charged, but a free-will offering will be conducted to help with expenses. This will be an outdoor service, weather permitting, so those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair.

Each year hundreds of people visit this unique historical log church and express appreciation for all who have helped with the reconstruction and the maintenance of the only church Mansfield has ever known in its 132-year history.

Those who come early can get a tour and learn some of the history of the church situated near the Michigamme River in the “Old Mansfield” location.

Directions to this historical landmark are: Turn off of M-69 onto the Mansfield Cut-Off Road, which is about 4 miles east of Crystal Falls and about 6 miles west of Sagola. Continue until the fork in the road, then veer left onto Stream Road. The church can be viewed from the road one-half mile later. The church is also listed as a site on Iron County’s Heritage Trail.
