April library events planned

IRON MOUNTAIN — Upcoming Dickinson County Library events for April include —

— Lego Club, Jr: at 4 p.m. today at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Calling all budding engineers. Kids in grades K-2 will be challenged to build a Spring masterpiece out of Legos at this month’s meeting. Playing with Legos increases fine motor skills, helps gain problem solving skills, builds self-confidence, and more. No registration required.

— Sticky Storytime Sessions: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; 10:30 a.m. Friday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township; and 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Spring into early literacy with books, songs and activities at the Sticky Storytime sessions. These programs for kids to age 5 and their caregivers will use the five ready-to-read practices: reading, singing, talking, playing and writing to promote early literacy practices and create lifelong readers. No registration is required.

— Yoga at the Library: at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Local yoga instructor Kimberly Spigarelli will lead teen and adult patrons through beginning to moderate poses and breathing exercises. Please bring a mat or towel with you. Required registration; please call the library at 906-774-1218 to sign up.

— Just Doh It: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

This club provides guided and independent activities such as letter formation, shape identification, and more for kids ages 3 to 5. Playing with play dough is a great activity to build fine motor skills and encourages children’s language and literacy, science and math skills all at the same time. No registration is required.

— Semi-Annual Friends of the Library Booksale: The Semi-Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale will be open to everyone starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and run through Sunday, April 28. Find great deals on books, audiobooks, VHS tapes, DVDs, music CDs and more.

— Solomonson Branch Book Club: at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Adults are invited to discuss “Mutant Message Down Under” by Marlo Morgan. New members are always welcome to attend.

— The Art of Being: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Crafters on Central, 733 Central Ave., Florence, Wis.

This program is designed for patrons in grade 5 and up that are currently battling cancer, are survivors of cancer, and for those that are/have been caregivers, includes family, friends, medical person, etc. This month we will be doing a special offsite program of Paint Your Own Pottery at Crafters on Central. Attendees must provide their own transportation to the program. Required registration began on Saturday; please cal l the Main Branch at 906-774-1218 to sign up. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

— Gamers’ Club: at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; at 4 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; and at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the North Dickinson Branch.

Kids in grades 3-8 are invited to play a variety of video and board games at this monthly program. No registration required.

— The Art of Being: 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

This drop-in program is designed for patrons in grade 5 and up that are currently battling cancer, are survivors of cancer, and for those that are/have been caregivers, includes family, friends, medical persons, etc. Each month a craft will be available for attendees to do if they wish; April will be a Denim Pocket Craft. This is also a safe space to share experiences and meet others.

— The Run for the Roses: from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

A history of the Kentucky Derby will be shared including origin, traditions, interesting facts, and a Derby Winner with a local connection to Iron Mountain. Non-alcoholic mint juleps will be available, and participants will have a chance to win a Pegasus pin. Fake bets for the 2024 Derby winner will be placed for fun. Please feel free to wear Derby gear, including big hats if you like. Required registration begins Saturday, April 20; please call the Solomonson Branch in Norway at 906-563-8617 to register.
