Peace service planned Sunday in Crystal Falls

CRYSTAL FALLS — The public is invited to attend a non-partisan, interdenominational Christian prayer service two days before the national election at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls.

The service will be called “Peace be with You: Prayers for a Peaceful Election.” The first half of the event will include a brief prayer service featuring music, readings, prayer, and singing bowls. The second half will include experiential elements such as a group painting, a candle station, and an opportunity to state our personal commitments to peace-making.

The vigil is being organized by a group of non-partisan citizens who are committed to praying and working toward a peaceful election and transition of power. They acknowledge that the election cycle can be a contentious time, and they wish to model a different way of being. The organizers will work to create a space where folks can express their concerns and anxieties, hear scripture that focuses on the non-violent example of Jesus, pray together, and encourage one another.

“There are so many layers to the fear and uncertainty in our world right now. This vigil is an opportunity to come together, regardless of our backgrounds. Our hope is that by praying for our siblings in all places and the peace that we hold so dear in our home communities, we might find relief from our own uneasiness,” said Charlotte Strom, Crystal Falls resident and part of the planning team.

The event is free and will be in the chapel at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp, 138 Fortune Lake Camp Road in Crystal Falls.

Questions about the event can be directed to Amanda Rasner, Fortune Lake Camp director at campdirector@fortunelake.org or 906-214-2267.

Starting at $2.99/week.
