Walk With Ease program to start
LANSING, MICH. — Michigan State University Extension, in collaboration with the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress, is offering a free hybrid version of Walk with Ease. This series starts May 1 and continues through June 5.
A Zoom link will be available at 2 p.m. Eastern time Thursdays. The weekly sessions will have a quick review of the resources, a chance to share motivational journeys and answers to some of the questions that might arise.
This Walk with Ease Hybrid is a self-directed enhanced program where individuals begin and end the six weeks at the same time, utilizing a curriculum from the American Arthritis Foundation.
An MSU Extension leader coordinates program information by sharing the book “Walk with Ease” with each participant once they complete a participant registration survey, weekly emails with videos links and informational handouts are sent and facilitators are available to answer questions using the online venue Zoom.
During the program, participants will:
— Learn the basics about arthritis and the relationship between arthritis, exercise and easing pain.
— Exercise safely and comfortably.
— Use methods to make walking fun.
— Make a personal walking plan with realistic goals for improved fitness.
— Learn tips and resources to help them overcome barriers and continue to be physically active.
— Learn about other programs and resources that can help them maintain their walking and try other physical activities.
