Braumart hosts art camp Saturday
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Braumart in Iron Mountain will host a one-day art camp for youth ages 9 through 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in celebration of its 100-year anniversary.
The Art Camp is sponsored by the Friends of the Braumart board members as part of its continued commitment to the arts.
“This is an exciting program and is the first of many workshops The Braumart has planned,” said Duane Peck, Friends of Braumart member.
The art camp is designed in two parts, he said.
After an introduction of materials and techniques, the children will create their own collage.
“This is always an exciting project, as they explore with paint, paper and fiber,” he said. “They are busy painting, cutting, glueing their own cherished masterpiece to take home.”
After lunch, the second project will involve the children in sculpture and the spatial arts.
Working with the medium of clay, each child is encouraged to express that “inner self” in a three-dimensional work of art, a piece they can take home.
In the art world there is no right or wrong way to express your creativity, Peck added.
Consequently, each participant in the projects strengthen their self-esteem and open their minds to new creative processes.
The workshop is under the leadership of Peck and Sarah Rice, both experienced educators and board members.
Registration is $75, which includes materials and lunch. All money goes toward The Braumart building renovation funds.
Registration can be done online at www.thebraumart.org or by calling 906-239-6088. Because of limited space, sign up is on a first-come, first-served basis.
