CHANNING — The first fundraiser for Camp Molinare was a huge success, Board President Jana Underwood said.

Camp Molinare board members and volunteers hosted the first fundraiser event to help defray the costs of maintaining the former 4-H camp on Sawyer Lake north of Channing in northern Dickinson County.

“Amazing, overwhelming and heartwarming” were some of the words describing the large crowd of supporters who took advantage of the cool but sunny afternoon activities planned for the day.

The silent auction items donated by individuals and businesses were beyond generous.

The pulled pork sandwiches and baked potato bar was scrumptious and mouthwatering, a volunteer noted.

The bingo games were lively, with a large variety of quality prizes from which to choose.

Musician Mark Young provided courtyard music as people gathered around the campfire and others played a game of cornhole.

There was a lot of connecting and conversation throughout the afternoon.

“The success of this fundraiser was beyond our expectations,” Board President Jana Underwood said. “We now can continue to offer this camp to families, youth groups and outdoor enthusiasts and to experience our corner of the Upper Peninsula.”

Underwood added they are extremely grateful for the businesses, volunteers and individuals that contributed to the fundraiser.

“It truly confirms that Dickinson County is a place that we are proud to call home,” she said.
