Barre classes at dance academy

IRON MOUNTAIN — Northern Michigan Dance Academy is now offering Barre Intensity and Barre 101 classes six days a week.

The classes are set to upbeat music and combine light weights with controlled muscle movements to build strength and elevate heart rates. The low-impact classes are designed for all fitness levels.

Ag conference set for March 11

ESCANABA — Michigan State University Extension will host the 14th annual Agriculture for Tomorrow conference March 11 in the Heirman University Center at Bay College in Escanaba.

Michigan Department of Agriculture Deputy Director James Averill will speak on “Michigan Ag: Today and Tomorrow.” Participants can attend their choice of four, concurrent breakout sessions. Topics will include agricultural opportunities for veterans, managing forages in adverse conditions, backyard poultry, USDA-inspected mobile slaughter units, on-farm food processing, MSU U.P. crop trial results, beekeeping, native pollinators, sheep health management, growing for local farm markets, wildlife damage management, beef cattle health, indigenous agriculture and food sovereignty, farm transportation issues, backyard apples and the USDA livestock price risk program.

New Parkour Academy opens

AURORA, Wis. — Kathrine Trempe has opened The Parkour Academy in Aurora, Wis., to provide training and a setup for practicing this activity that combines running, jumping and climbing over obstacles.

Inspired by the freestyle parkour movement and television show “American Ninja Warrior,” Trempe operates the academy in the Hillcrest School Gym, 2030 Calvary Drive in Aurora.

The Parkour Academy is fully insured and has certified educators. Classes are open to ages 3 and older.
