New COVID cases reported in Wisconsin and the UP

Wisconsin counties in the region reported three more COVID-19 positives Friday, two in Marinette County and one in Forest County.

In the Upper Peninsula, state health officials listed two more positives in Marquette County — its total of 61 cases is the most in the region — and one more in Gogebic County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday had Baraga and Keweenaw counties with one confirmed virus case each; Alger County two confirmed cases; Chippewa County two confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County three confirmed cases; Iron and Schoolcraft counties four confirmed cases; Gogebic County six confirmed cases and a death; Dickinson County six confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Houghton and Mackinac counties eight confirmed cases; Menominee County nine confirmed cases; Delta County 18 confirmed cases, three probable and two deaths; and Marquette County 61 confirmed cases and 11 deaths.

The MDHHS also earlier had separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

The Upper Peninsula as of Friday had 135 confirmed positives and 16 deaths. Ontonagon remains the only county in the Upper Peninsula and in Michigan not to have at least one positive coronavirus test.

The MDHHS statewide reported 211 confirmed new COVID-19 cases Friday for a total of 60,829 to date. The state had five new deaths for 5,823 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System on Thursday showed three cases from Dickinson County and seven cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 927 people for COVID-19, with 10 positive, 868 negative and 29 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Friday listed six reported cases in Dickinson County with two deaths, three recoveries and one active case; and four reported cases in Iron County, all still active.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ data site Friday had Marinette County with 42 cases and three deaths; Forest County with 34 cases and two deaths; Vilas County with 10 cases; Florence County with two cases; and Iron County with two cases and a death.

However, Forest County on Friday afternoon posted on its Facebook site that it had a 35th case, again linked to the outbreak at The Bay at Nu-Roc care facility in Laona, Wis.

Statewide, Wisconsin on Friday had recorded 24,154 cases of COVID-19, with 730 deaths.
