Tourism conference May 27 in Escanaba

ESCANABA – The 2015 Uppertunities Tourism Conference will be held on Wednesday, May 27, and now is the time for Upper Peninsula regional business owners to register themselves and their employees for this event.

This one-day conference, designed for both tourism and non-tourism businesses, will help companies that are hoping to improve customer service and help employees become more positive and service orientated. There are multiple sessions focused on social media and professional development that are resources for all sectors of business.

The opening keynote speaker will be Rick Olson. Olson is considered one of the foremost communicators in the business world. Rick Olson Seminars was founded in 1992 for the express purpose of elevating organizations through people development. He has spoken in all 50 states, presenting convention keynotes, training staff and management personnel, and consulting companies through times of change.

The lunch keynote speaker will be David West, vice president of Travel Michigan. West is a nationally recognized leader in the tourism industry, and in 2011 was named on of the Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI).

He has also received two Destiny Awards from the U.S. Travel Association and numerous Adrian Awards through HSMAI for social media and marketing campaigns he has led.

The closing keynote speaker will be Krista Neher, CEO of Boot Camp Digital, author of the bestselling Social Media Field Guide, Visual Social Media Marketing and the textbook Social Media Marketing: A Strategic Approach and an international speaker.

There will be two tracks of breakout sessions at the event focusing on customer service, business resources and U.P. Tourism Marketing. The day will adjourn with a Business After Hours held at the Conference Center where the Upper Edge Young Professionals Group of Delta County will be featured and where gift baskets from around the U.P. will be given away to the attendees.

Conference tickets are $59 and include continental breakfast and lunch.

Those wishing to showcase their business can purchase a 10-foot-by-3 foot booth for $99. It includes a table, skirting, and two chairs. A booth purchase also includes on ticket to all conference workshop sessions.

There are also sponsorship opportunities available.

The target audience for the showcase will be the general public, Chamber and Tourism Association members and residents of the Upper Peninsula.
