UP Pawn expands on Iron Mountain’s north side

IRON MOUNTAIN — U.P. Pawn is not your “average” pawn shop.

It’s not quite like television shows such as “Pawn Stars,” either — although, co-owner Donald Nelson does love to dicker when buying, selling and trading.

It also is a family-friendly business that offers something for everyone, the owners said. They specialize in vintage and modern gaming, tools, jewelry, electronics and more.

They also include local vendors to provide new and fresh items from within our community, including Riversong Soaps, Paparazzi Jewelry by Sarah, Angels’ Crochet Corner, homemade bath bombs/fizzies and raw natural honey and salsa from Mark Jasper.

Owners Donald and Bobbie Jo Nelson say they strive to keep that hometown flavor in their business.

U.P. Pawn opened Feb. 1, 2017, as a small shop next to the former Washboard Coin Laundry. This past year, they got the opportunity to grow by moving into the neighboring space at 617 N. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain. It allows them to offer an even greater variety and bring larger items in for sale.

U.P. Pawn also offers small collateral loans without the paperwork and hassle of a fast-cash business. They said they insist on bringing fair prices to both sales and service loans.

“The community has been very welcoming and we are able to fill a void that we weren’t even aware was so important and needed,” the Nelsons said.

“We take great pride in where we live and hope to see more business growth on the north side of Iron Mountain.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
