SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — When Linda and Michael Carpenter purchased the Bear’s Den Mini-Golf and Go-Karts in Spread Eagle in November, they didn’t know what to expect.

But it’s been “crazy busy,” Linda Carpenter said.

“Things are going very well. The community is very helpful, more than expected. It’s been more work than we thought, just in general getting everything set up,” she said.

They have made several updates to the business and property, which was designed and built in 1992 by Judy and Bill Krieg. The most noticeable is the new go-kart pit, which is covered to protect people getting on the karts from the weather.

They’ve added new outdoor lighting and new landscaping and they hope to have a new outdoor sign soon. They also extended the building to add room for ticket purchases and office space.

“It was just a general face lift, a bunch of improvements along the way,” she said.

She works with her two teenage sons and her sister. The business is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

“We’ve started to see a lot of tourism. I’m surprised by how many people come up from Green Bay or Appleton for camping and spend the day go-karting,” Linda Carpenter said.

She said they are starting to see repeat customers and are already starting to recognize their names in the system.

Another big change is the updated website and online ticket system. Customers can order tickets online and they are good for the summer if the customer can’t use it right away.

They are also developing an online tracking system so that customers using the go-karts can track their times and compete for prizes.

They hope to add more activities in the next four to five years, including a climbing wall and laser tag.
