Fab Lab grant

The Florence County School District was among 21 schools to receive a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation grant. The district was awarded $25,000 during “Fab Lab Day” in Wisconsin last week. Sixty-nine school districts applied for grants totalling nearly $500,000 to establish or expand local fabrication laboratory facilities. Florence also received a grant last year and with part of the money purchased a CNC router, pictured, which can be programmed to cut designs and letters. The district came up with about $22,000 in matching funds from local businesses. The school district continues to expand its Fab Lab with purchase of new equipment and incorporating new curriculum. The district started with a class last year with 10 juniors and senior students. Plans call for adding an introductory class for ninth through 12th grades. The Fab Lab is open to the public on Wednesday evenings.
