Region has full slate of Independence Day events

IRON MOUNTAIN — Local communities are getting ready to celebrate Independence Day this weekend with parades, picnics, games and live music.
Scheduled events include:
IRON MOUNTAIN-KINGSFORD
— The 2025 Iron Mountain-Kingsford Independence Day parade is set to step off at 9 a.m. Friday. This year’s theme is “Christmas in July.”
The parade starts at the corner of Balsam/Woodward, proceeds east down Woodward and turns left onto Carpenter, then right onto H Street to end at the Midtown Mall parking lot on Stephenson Avenue. Road closures for the route will go into effect at 9 a.m.

The Lake Antoine Park Partners have taken over the reins as event organizers this year from the Menominee Range Historical Museum promotional committee.
The MRHM promotional committee has been selected as this year’s grand marshal, to honor them for all the years of service to the community.
Parade participants are asked not to throw candy or items from vehicles. Anyone wishing to distribute candy or literature can hand them out at the curbside of the route. Participants are also instructed not to start passing out candy until the official start on Woodward.
The Kingsford side of Woodward at Balsam will not be available for spectators, as this will be the judging area. Entries will be judged on entertainment, creativity and public appeal.
This year, LAPP will introduce The Chairperson Excellence Award, which “recognizes the entry that best demonstrates dedication to the parade’s success through positive interactions and overall contribution to the event’s energy and excitement.”
The public is asked not to drive through the staging area on Balsam Street for safety reasons. Patrons are reminded to not allow children to gather on the road, especially near the turns.
The Sons of the American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain has organized the annual community fireworks show, set to take place at dusk Friday from Millie Hill on Iron Mountain’s east side. In case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled to Saturday. Any updates to changes will be posted on the city of Iron Mountain’s website and Facebook pages.
To assist with the fundraising efforts, the Iron Mountain Fire Department will walk the parade route with the “Fill the Boot” campaign, collecting donations in a firefighter’s boot.
Donation checks can be made payable to SAL Fireworks Fund-2025 and mailed to SAL Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 1046, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. Those who would prefer to have donations picked up can contact Michael Laydon, chair and fundraiser for the community Fourth of July fireworks, at 906-774-5357.
Several volunteers will also be collecting donations for area food pantries. They will accept unexpired, non-perishable food, personal care items, cleaning supplies and cash donations.
The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will host a cookout immediately after the parade Friday at the post at 916 River Ave. in Iron Mountain. They will serve brats, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips and beverages.
Children age 12 and younger with a paying adult will receive free hot dogs and ice cream.
NORWAY
Norway’s Independence Day parade will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the kiddie parade, followed by the main parade at about 6 p.m.
Participants are asked to line up at least 45 minutes early for judging. No registration is required to take part in the parade.
Children are asked to line up on 10th Avenue, with the main parade entries to line up on 11th and Railroad avenues.
Organizers request that horse clubs provide a cleanup person to follow along the route.
The Norway City Band will perform at the band shell before the fireworks.
The Norway Volunteer Fire Department will conduct the fireworks display at dusk Friday.

HAMILTON LAKES
The Hamilton Lakes Association will host its annual Fourth of July boat parade at 2 p.m. Thursday on the chain of lakes.
Participants are asked to meet at the east end of Lake Louise. They will follow the Lake Louise shoreline and travel through the channel and circle Hamilton Lake.
The parade will conclude after the boats circle near the Hamilton Lake boat launch. The Hamilton Lakes Association will award prizes for most original and patriotic boats. No preregistration is required.
A mini parade is also planned at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to participate.
They will start at Kraemer’s Bar, head to Hamilton Lakes Road and to then Lake Mary boat launch.
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis.
The fireworks display at the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes in Spread Eagle is planned at dusk Thursday.
The Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes Association will sponsor its annual boat parade at noon Friday with the theme of “Board Games.”
They will also host an ice cream social at Melin’s on North Lake Channel.
The Badwater Ski-Ters will perform at 2 p.m. Friday.
FELCH TOWNSHIP
Fireworks will kick off the Felch celebration at dusk Thursday at the Felch Community Center.
The Fourth of July parade will begin at noon Friday on 14th Avenue and ends at the Community Center. Line-up starts at 11 a.m.
CHANNING
Channing’s Independence Celebration takes place Saturday. “SNACKS” is this year’s theme for the parade, which will step off at 3 p.m. down M-95. Participants are asked to line up on Turner Road.
The annual community picnic will follow at the Channing athletic complex. Lunch will be provided by the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club. Adult beverages and soda will be available for purchase. No carry-ins will be allowed.
Bingo will begin after the parade. Kids can enjoy the games and bounce houses from 4 to 8 p.m.
Music by Tom Party Tunes will begin at 5 p.m.
They will also host an amateur cornhole tournament. Registration starts at 4 p.m. Cost is $40 per team, with prizes based on the number of entries.
The event is sponsored by the Sagola Township Fire Department, as well as area businesses.
Fireworks will be set off at dusk Saturday.
HERMANSVILLE
The annual Independence Day celebration at Hermansville Lake and Park will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.
The kids parade kicks off the event at 10:45 a.m., with the “Patriot” main parade to follow at 11 a.m. Line-up and registration will begin at 10 a.m. by Stewart Manufacturing. Children are to line up at 10 a.m. by the sportsman’s club.
Prizes will be awarded for the best floats and decorated classic car, motorcycle and ORV.
The parade is sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion Post 340.
Food, refreshments, music and games will be available at the park as well. No carry-ins will be permitted.
The Peltier Brothers of Bark River will entertain the crowd throughout the afternoon.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Bounce houses will be available for kids.
Park festivities are sponsored by the William Anderson Sportsman’s Club.
The American Legion Post 340 will conduct a 50-50 raffle at the lake.
The Rusty Nuts Car Club will present its annual Car and Bike Show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the IXL Historical Museum, with trophy presentation at 3 p.m. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon, with a $10 entry fee.
The Hermansville Mud Bogs runs begin at noon at the William Anderson Sportsman’s Club. Registration is from 8 to 11 a.m. There will be cash payouts for each event.
The IXL Historical Museum and the Vietnam Veterans Museum will be open for the afternoon. The Curious Pig food truck will be on site for the afternoon.
The fireworks will start at dusk, sponsored by the Hermansville Fireworks Committee.
POWERS-SPALDING
The annual Powers-Spalding Independence Day celebration is planned Friday at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Powers.
The “Patriotic” theme parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., with cash prizes awarded for the best floats. Activities continue at the park after the parade, with games, food and refreshments. No carry-ins will be allowed.
The WUMPA truck pulls begin at noon, with registration from 9 to 11 a.m.
Live music will be provided by Cal’s Country Classics of the local area.
The Normenco Sportsmen’s Club will again sponsor a fishing derby from noon to 3 p.m.
They will also feature a dunk tank, kids games and bounce houses provided by North Central Area Parent Network, Little League and Youth Wrestling.
Tickets for the Lions Club gun raffle will be available at the event.
The celebration is sponsored by the Powers-Spalding Lions Club and the Tony Revord American Legion Post 244 and Sons of the American Legion Post 244.
FLORENCE, Wis.
The American Legion Post 211 of Florence will host a brat fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pat’s Foods, 1000 Central Ave. in Florence.
The town of Florence Volunteer Fire Department will present fireworks at Fisher Lake at dusk Saturday.
LONG LAKE, Wis.
The Long Lake/Tipler Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual Fourth of July parade and picnic on Saturday. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. on State Highway 139.
A full afternoon of events are planned starting at noon at the fire hall grounds.
Lunch will be available, including brats, burgers, smoked pulled pork and hot dogs, plus fruit cups and beverages. They will host kids games with prizes, along with a dunk tank.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
The Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department will conduct 50-50s and other raffles throughout the event. Proceeds benefit the fire department.
The party will continue at the Roadhouse 139 pavilion, with Jesse Fuller and Ron Hall taking stage at 5 p.m.
PEMBINE, Wis.
The Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Chamber of Commerce will again host a variety of activities Saturday to celebrate the Fourth of July.
A fishing tournament for kids 13 and younger is slated from 10 a.m. until noon at the Dunbar fishing pond, with prizes awarded.
A bag toss tournament starts at noon at Diane’s Pop A Top for those age 21 and older, unless with a parent.
A craft and vendor show and Glaser’s Reptile booth will run from 3 to 7 p.m. downtown.
Face painting will begin at 3 p.m., along with bounce houses for the kids.
Magical entertainment shows take place at 4 and 7 p.m., with walk-around magic in between shows.
The Paul Family Band will perform starting at 6 p.m. at Winters Family Restaurant.
Silver Dollar will host fun karaoke from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
In addition to the local restaurants, several food trucks will be on site.
The car show runs from 3 to 8 p.m. at Pembine Automotive. First through third place trophies will be given out for best of show.
The fireworks are set to start at 9:30 p.m.
GOODMAN, Wis.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend in Goodman.
The Independence Day Lake Hilbert Campground parade starts at noon Friday, followed by a cornhole tournament and games.
The annual Fourth of July street dance will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Goodman Fire Hall, 506 Mill St. DJ Seismic starts at 7 p.m.
The event will have food, beverages, raffles and a bounce house for the kids. No carry-ins are allowed. Admission is free.
It is hosted by the Goodman Fire Department, with proceeds to go toward needed equipment.
The Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad will conduct its 5K Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. Registration starts at 7 a.m.
Festivities continue from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Lake Hilbert Park.
Fireworks will be at dusk Saturday at Hilbert Lake.
IRON RIVER
The West Side Veterans Council will sponsor the annual “Patriotic” Fourth of July in Iron River on Friday. John Cimarelli will serve as the 2025 parade marshal.
The parade starts at 10 p.m. Friday, with line-up at the West Iron County High School bus garage. Participants can start registration at 8 a.m. at the West Iron District School.
The route goes down Washington Street to Genesee Street, then west on Genesee to Seventh Avenue, where it will disband. A reviewing stand will be along Genesee Street. Parade prizes will be awarded.
The American Legion Reino Post 21 will have hot dogs and brats from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the post at 212 Washington Ave. They will sell raffle tickets as well until they draw a winner at about 3 p.m.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3134 will also be cooking on the deck starting at 10 a.m.
The West Iron County Fire Department will host a watermelon eating contest and foot races at the fire hall after the parade.
They will also present fireworks at dusk.
ALPHA
A full day is planned at the 111th-annual Fourth of July celebration Friday in Alpha.
Festivities will begin with the raising of the flag ceremony at 9 a.m., presented by the East Side Veterans and Forest Park High School Band at the Village Circle in Alpha
The “Summer in the U.P.” parade will step off after the ceremony at about 9:30 a.m., with line up to start at 8 a.m.
After the parade, the Alpha-Mastodon Fire Department will provide free ice cream and Cracker Jacks at the Village Hall.
The Friends of Alpha Pie Social is set for 10 a.m. at the Village Hall.
Fun begins at 11 a.m. for kids of all ages at the baseball field. Activities will include kids relay, coin scramble, sack races, music and dancing on the tennis court, bubble machine, and an arcade trailer. Kids can also pack their swimsuits and a towel to spend the day on the splash pad and slip and slide.
Sign-up for the Southern U.P. Cornhole competition opens at 11 a.m., with bags to fly at noon.
The four-on-four Youth Co-ed Volleyball Tournament is set for 2 p.m. on the new family park outdoor court across from the senior center.
A Vendor and Craft Market will be open for the day.
Live music begins with the DayDreamers at 11 a.m., Fire On High at 3 p.m. and 141 North at 6 p.m., with Silent Disco closing the evening at 9 p.m.
Several vendors will offer a variety of food and beverage items, from breakfast to dinner. They include All Belgium Waffles, Thermal Chaos, Harmony Health Baker, Flavor Blast, KLR Foods, S&J Italian Beefs and Chicago Dogs, Sugar Jets, Harbor House, Alpha Brewing Company and Ice Cream Shop & Pizza.
Fireworks at dark are sponsored by the Mastodon Township and the Village of Alpha.
AMASA
Amasa’s celebration begins with a patriotic sing-along at 9 a.m. Friday at Grace United Church. The flag raising will follow at 10 a.m. at Joe Mechon Park, along with the presentation of the Albino Webber Scholarship. Proceeds from the food sold at the event go to fund a scholarship.
The kiddie parade will step off after the presentation. Kids games of dash, ping pong and sack races, along with the women’s hay bale race will start at 10:30 a.m.
A coed crosscut saw contest is also planned.
The kids’ money scramble will take place at the Amasa Museum. Ice cream and Cracker Jacks will be handed out after the games.
A duck race hosted by the Amasa Historical Society is set for noon on the Hemlock River, followed by the raffle drawing at 1 p.m.
The community softball game will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk in downtown Amasa.
WAUSAUKEE, Wis.
The annual Independence Day Celebration in Wausaukee is planned Saturday at the Marinette County Fairgrounds, 100 Fairgrounds Road, Wausaukee.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. downtown through Main Street.
The craft and vendors sale will be set up starting at 1 p.m.
The mini rod pull will be at 5 p.m. in the grandstands.
Spitfire DJ will provide entertainment from 2 to 5 p.m., with The Coves playing from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
They will also have a cornhole tournament and air bounce structures, along with a variety of food and beverages available.
The event is free to the public.
Fireworks will begin at dusk from Stumbris Park.
CRIVITZ, Wis.
The traditional Fourth of July festivities in Crivitz starts with a flag raising at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the Crivitz Community Veterans Park, followed by the parade at 11 a.m. downtown.
The celebration continues at the park with a variety of vendors offering food and beverages.
The Flea and Farmers Market will be set up all day.
A DJ will provide music from noon to 6 p.m., with the band Until Dawn performing from 6 to 9 p.m.
The evening ends with fireworks at about 9:30 p.m. at the park.
