Pembine hires interim superintendent

PEMBINE, Wis. — The Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District has a new interim superintendent.

Andy Space was hired a special meeting in January and his contract was extended Wednesday through the end of the school year.

Space spent 25 years with the Crandon School District before he joined the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine district. He is two-thirds of the way through earning licensing to become a superintendent but is qualified under emergency situations such as this, according to the board. He expects to have his licensing done before the next school year.

The board used CESA 8 to find qualified candidates who were available for hire.

Space vowed to be financially responsible for the district, adding, “I appreciation the warm welcome. It’s a great school with a great board, staff and students.”

The district lost its superintendent Dec. 31 when Chris Metras suddenly resigned. The board cited health reasons for Metras’ decision but has provided few other details.

In other business, the board:

— Accepted Stephanie Goyak’s resignation as assistant athletic director. She is moving out of the area.

— Changed the daycare center’s operating times during inclement weather. When school is canceled, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. unless icy road conditions require it be closed as well for employees’ safety. If school is on a two-hour delay, the center will open at 7:30 a.m. rather than 5:30 in the morning.
