Work to start on US 8 bridge
NORWAY — The U.S. 8 bridge south of Norway will be closed for repairs and a detour will be in place beginning Tuesday, lasting for several months, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.
MDOT and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are investing about $2.4 million to replace the bridge deck and railing and paint structural steel on the bridge over the Menominee River at the Michigan-Wisconsin state line.
The estimated completion date is Sept. 13.
The work will require closing the bridge and detouring traffic. Northbound U.S. 8 traffic will be detoured via U.S. 141 through Niagara, Wis., and on to U.S. 2 near Quinnesec. The detour will be reversed for southbound traffic. Access to the Menominee River will remain open on both sides of the bridge for the duration of the project.
