Peshtigo shooting range closed

MARINETTE, Wis. — A shooting range in the town of Peshtigo has been closed indefinitely for safety reasons, said Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

The decision was made Tuesday by the town board in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

“We are investigating reports of people in water crafts on the lower Peshtigo River being in danger of bullets fired from people using the range,” Sauve said. “There have also been complaints of houses/garages being struck down range across the river from the range.”

The closure of the Hipke Road range will allow the sheriff’s office to investigate the complaints and work with the DNR to identify safety improvements before the range can be used again, he said.
